GENERAL

Actively pursue and support the Action Plan outlined in

The Saxmundham Community Plan

which is based on

The Saxmundham Survey Report

of over 5,500 households

in the IP17 postal area, centred on Saxmundham:

SAXMUNDHAM

Above all Saxmundham needs a community centre - to provide a focus for the community. Even most of the local parishes have modern village halls. What have we got? The Market Hall - constantly being patched up, doors closed more than they're open, no parking, no bar, run down...

In recent years, all of our neighbouring towns of Framlingham, Halesworth, Leiston and Wickham Market have all expanded their ameniities eg art centres, theatres, swimming pools, gyms, skateparks, playgrounds etc...

While Sxmundham has been slowly losing what little it had. Apart from Carlton Park and its sports clubs (run by a charity), there is precious little in the way of community and social facilities for the youth of our town, families, the elderly and those with additional needs.

To put a halt to Saxmundham slowly sliding into a backwater dormitory town - a neighbourhood of strangers - we need to breathe life into the town and make it an attractive place where people will enjoy living, working and playing.

Research and consultations with residents living in IP17 show that

the vast majority would welcome a community enterprise centre.

This now could be a possbility from summer 2012

with the Saxmundham Middle School becoming redundant.

This is what theCommunity Enterprise Centre could look like- please click here.
